   “Oh shit!” he groaned from under the pillow he’d used belatedly to hide behind after his dad left. 

“That was so embarrassing!”
   “It wasn’t that bad, love,” Darren tried to reassure him. “And it was nice what he said.”
   “Yes, it was, but all this is getting too weird. It was only a few 

months ago that he virtually kicked me out of the house as an
undesirable and now he’s telling my boyfriend to call him ‘Dad’ and bringing us tea in bed! He and I have never had this sort of
relationship, Darren. It’s going to take me a little time to adjust.”
